All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

Testing technology on the upswing

The product safety of bicycles is becoming increasingly important: This is the conclusion that can be gathered from the business report 2014 of one of the most renowned test institutes. With up-to-date services a basis was established for a further development of this business activity.

With regard to the past year 2014 the Zedler – Institut für Fahrradtechnik und –Sicherheit speaks of a "record-breaking development". Although the turnovers had constantly experienced a double-digit increase in the past years, a new high was achieved with a plus of 27 percent. In particular the testing department had reportedly developed disproportionately, whereas the turnovers in the two other business activities loss assessment and operating instructions had experienced a linear increase.

Dirk Zedler is happy that he can now reap the fruit of his consistent work in the testing department: "Our test laboratory is meanwhile equipped with 37 partly highly complex, static and dynamic testing systems. We are consistently able to conduct tests at short-term for our customers. Typically, it takes no longer than 48 hours until the respective test units are mounted on the testing systems; the results are available to the customer after one week at the latest," states Zedler.

New standards already in use

In addition, the Zedler institute has started a few months ago to test in accordance with the new DIN EN ISO 4210 standard which includes some new requirements on 200 pages. Apart from the tests in accordance with the standard, further tests were developed and validated. These are designed for bicycles and components facing demands going beyond the minimum requirements. With the so-called Multiload tests they were in a position to perform test cycles that vary or mix up load types as well as forces.
