All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. Guidelines for the parts replacement of speed pedelecs

45 kmh / 28 mph fast speed pedelecs are legally considered motor vehicles. Components must not be replaced at will. Guidelines in this regard have now been presented by a panel of experts.

Speed pedelecs provide assistance up to 45 kmh / 28 mph

The guidelines were drawn up by the umbrella organization for German industry guilds BIV, TUEV Rheinland, the test institute, the German service and bicycle association VSF, Zedler Institut as well as the German bicycle association ZIV.

CE marked pedelecs providing a pedal assistance up to 25 kmh/ 15.5 mph are also covered by the Machinery Directive. For this reason components of pedelecs must neither be replaced at will, a fact which led to uncertainty among specialist dealers in the beginning. At the end of 2015 a first version of the guidelines for the parts replacement of e-bikes and pedelecs jointly worked out by the German associations ZIV, VSF, Zedler Institut and the BIV had been published. The question what bicycle dealers and workshops are allowed to modify on these vehicles and for which components they have to ask for the approval of the vehicle manufacturers and/or the system providers has been clearly regulated by the guidelines since then. Mechanics should consider it as recommendation to act.
