All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest., 2017/06/26

Electric bicycles in the test: dangerous defects

Electric bicycles, also referred to as e-bikes or pedelecs, become more and more popular. Riding an electric bicycle is less exhausting than riding a usual bicycle and mountains are no longer a problem for older cyclists. Cheap pedelecs are already available at less than 1,000 Euros. The German magazine “Markt” compares three models in a sample:

  • Mifa Alu Elektro Pedelec from Mitteldeutsche Fahrradfabrik, bought from an online trader at 674 Euro
  • Zündapp Greene 2.0 Alu-City E-Bike, bought from Real at 868 Euro
  • Fischer City EcoLine, bought from Conrad at 999 Euro

The electric bicycles are tested by Dirk Zedler, expert for bicycle technology: Are the bicycles easy and safe to assemble? What about the functioning of the brakes? And how stable is the frame?

Conclusion: Expert recommends pedelecs from 2,000 Euro on
Expert Dirk Zedler is of the opinion that the tested electric bicycles from Mifa, Zündapp and Fischer have safety deficiencies which might result in severe accidents. The expert advises to go to a bicycle retailer and arrange a test run on a pedelec at 2,000 Euros and more. Pedelecs of this price category were good and safe.
