All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

In our daily work as we deal with bicycle safety, technology and user manuals we come across lots of safety risks. The most frequent ones are published in articles of the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR – Europas Rennrad-Magazin Nr. 1, BIKE – Das Mountainbike Magazin Europas Nr. 1 and E-Bike – Das Pedelec-Magazin to make this information important for the sector accessible to a wider public.

For many years now the Eurobike Show Daily accompanying the annual international Eurobike Show has given us the opportunity to publish our perspective on major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent lectures about all topics relating to bicycle technology and bicycle market. In addition, we are regularly cited by further special-interest magazines or trade journals as well as more and more by radio and television and in their media reports, which shows us that we are completely right with our information. The section NEWS informs you about the latest news from our specialist fields. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to topics of interest.

Electric bicycles in the test: dangerous defects

Electric bicycles, also referred to as e-bikes or pedelecs, become more and more popular. Riding an electric bicycle is less exhausting than riding a usual bicycle and mountains are no longer a problem for older cyclists. Cheap pedelecs are already available at less than 1,000 Euros. The German magazine “Markt” compares three models in a sample:

  • Mifa Alu Elektro Pedelec from Mitteldeutsche Fahrradfabrik, bought from an online trader at 674 Euro
  • Zündapp Greene 2.0 Alu-City E-Bike, bought from Real at 868 Euro
  • Fischer City EcoLine, bought from Conrad at 999 Euro

The electric bicycles are tested by Dirk Zedler, expert for bicycle technology: Are the bicycles easy and safe to assemble? What about the functioning of the brakes? And how stable is the frame?

Conclusion: Expert recommends pedelecs from 2,000 Euro on
Expert Dirk Zedler is of the opinion that the tested electric bicycles from Mifa, Zündapp and Fischer have safety deficiencies which might result in severe accidents. The expert advises to go to a bicycle retailer and arrange a test run on a pedelec at 2,000 Euros and more. Pedelecs of this price category were good and safe.
