All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

German TV program NDR shows safety-relevant defects on cheap bicycles

By order of the German consumer program "Markt" of the German TV channel NDR broadcast yesterday on Monday, April 18, four bicycle models marketed by discount and DIY stores were tested carefully by Zedler-Institut. The results of the tested bicycles with sales prices between 199 and 299 Euro revealed safety-relevant defects. (...)

Bicycles offered by the German discount stores Aldi, Lidl, Real and Hagebau were checked thoroughly. On this occasion the team around Dirk Zedler found out defects, such as loose handlebar stems, tyres out of balance and slipping off handlebar grips. These shortcomings were so severe that the bicycles should not be sold in this condition. In the report, the expert Zedler states that the bicycles were all scrap. For more information on the tests as well as on the report of the program visit the homepage of the German channel NDR.

According to NDR, the respective bicycles were withdrawn from the product range by Hagebau and Lidl, as a reaction to the tests. For the bicycles from the DIY store even a recall action was initiated. Zedler welcomes the reporting of the German NDR channel. "We are happy that the public service broadcasters keep the issue bicycles of the most simple technology up-to-date," states the expert. “They ensure that consumers are reasonably informed about how to avoid often serious accidents with unsafe bicycles. Because only if good bicycles are sold, more and more people will have fun cycling."
