All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

Modular risk assessments for e-bike / E-MTB and transport bike manufacturers

EPACs are covered by the Machinery Directive, this is common knowledge among bicycle manufacturers. The fact that a risk assessment in accordance with EN ISO 12100:2010 is required as proof of machine safety is less known.

Zedler-Institut has been preparing customer-specific risk assessments for about a decade. On several occasions, they have helped manufacturers even in crisis situations to be freed from the “clutches” of the market surveillance authorities .

Now we have expanded our risk assessment portfolio and offer modular risk assessments for independent customisation for any number of models. The basic module considers the risks of an e-city/trekking bicycle sold by the bicycle dealer.

Based on these modules, you can choose the following additional modules:

• E-MTB
• E-road bike / E-gravel bike
• E-transport bike
• E-folding bike
• E-tandem
• Direct sales (online trade)

We either prepare the risk assessment directly with the modules chosen by you, so that you have a risk assessment ready to be used for your e-bike model.

Or you chose an open system that you can adapt to your different models on your own. We offer introductory training for this system to make it easier for you to work with the risk assessment of Zedler-Institut.

By the way: If the worst comes to the worst, we would be glad to support you with our many years of experience in your product recall!
