All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

Beware of regulations

Regulations have a considerable influence on the development and production of bicycles and parts. The first conference on technology organised by the German Association of the Two-Wheeler Industry showed that the sector has a lot to look forward to with further regulations.

History of technical exchange

For the first time, an event was held for experts of bicycle technology on the initiative of the Rhine Westphalian TÜV. The Essen bicycle forum was held every second year - with the financial support of VFM (German association of the cycle and motorcycle industry), i.e. a predecessor of the German Association of the Two-Wheeler Industry ZIV.

In 1993, the focus was laid among other things on the safety of bicycle trailers. In 1995, the bicycle forum programme was about lighting. One was talking about the difficulty of introducing hub dynamos in a market that was still price-sensitive at the time. Before the turn of the millennium already, the Essen bicycle forum had already been history. It was only from 2009 on that the German Association for Materials Research and Testing (DVM) drew the attention to them with expert conferences on bicycle technology. Topics were fatigue strength, carbon, the safety of and then the loads acting on electric bicycles, in general.

Among the speakers were well-known names, such as Siegfried Neuberger, Dirk Zedler and Dr. Eric Groß, part of the audience were regularly the most renowned developers, such as Hinnak Oldenburg from Stevens and Jan Talavasek from Specialized. RadMarkt has always attended these events since 1993 and resumed the conferences for the public of the industry. Then, the covid-19 pandemic broke out. At present, DVM do not announce any bicycle-related workshops on their website. The ZIV conference seems to be the future of the technical exchange of the industry.
