All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

New guidelines for the replacement of e-bike parts

The German bicycle associations ZIV, VSF, the umbrella organization for German industry guilds (Bundesinnungsverband) updated the guidelines for the replacement of e-bike parts published end 2015.

The guidelines are now available in a revised version. They aim at German bicycle retailers and workshops and serve as recommendation for e-bikes components (models up to 25 km/h or 15 mph) that can be modified at their’s own discretion and other components for which they need the manufacturer’s approval.

The recommendation has meanwhile become a major contribution to product safety. This is a point which was confirmed by the positive feedback after the first publication. Nevertheless, there were still suggestions and ideas for improvement of all interested parties. These were now taken into account and adopted in a new version.

The division into four categories is to simplify the replacement of the parts. Category one includes the components which must only be replaced upon approval of the vehicle manufacturer/system provider. Direct e-bike components, such as motors and sensors are listed in this category. Category two comprises parts, such as frames and forks which require approval of the vehicle manufacturer. The third category lists parts which require the approval of the vehicle or component manufacturer. Examples for this category are crank arms and tyres. Group four includes those products which do not require any special approval. (ds)
