All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

Zedler-Institut: Advanced Training for Bicycle Experts

Over 100,000 bicycle accidents per year – and too few experts capable of properly assessing modern e-bikes, carbon components, and EPAC systems. The result: claims settlements dragging on for years, frustrated claimants, and overwhelmed insurers. This is precisely where the Zedler-Institut in Ludwigsburg steps in – with a practice-oriented continuing education program for bicycle experts, which was once again successfully completed in mid-April.

20 Participants, Two Days, One Clear Objective

In mid-April, 20 participants in Ludwigsburg completed the two-day “Advanced” training at the Zedler-Institutthe advanced level building on the already established “Basic” seminar. The target group was deliberately broad: experts from the bicycle industry, automotive damage assessors, and external insurance claims adjusters worked side by side at the test stations.

Key training topics:

  • E-bike systems: diagnostic capabilities and typical fault patterns in EPAC motors and batteries
  • Carbon components: inspection and repair methods, damage assessment
  • Pre-existing and prior damage: detailed differentiation for legally robust expert reports
  • Replacement values: classification of current bicycle technology within the market context
  • Plausibility checks: based on real-world case examples from expert practice

Participant feedback was unequivocal: content quality, the balance between practical and theoretical elements, instructor expertise, and overall conditions received an average rating of 1.3.

Voices from the Training

Roland Leutheußer from an automotive engineering appraisal office summarized:
“Sensational impressions.”

Alexander Seidel from Konrad Sachverständige GmbH added:
“Just like the ‘Basic’ course – really strong performance.”

Why This Topic Is Critical

Assessing modern bicycles is far more complex than many assume. EPAC systems with integrated motors and batteries, carbon frames with non-visible damage, and replacement values in a highly differentiated marketall of this requires specialized expertise that automotive experts simply do not possess without targeted training.

The Zedler-Institut highlights the issue clearly: too few qualified bicycle experts mean that accident victims often wait years for claims settlement. Bicycle accidents are far from a marginal phenomenonthe increasing number of fatal bicycle accidents has only recently been covered in the media.

The institute incorporates experience from over 15,000 expert reports on bicycle damage into its training programsa knowledge base of unique depth in Germany.

Conclusion

Anyone in need of a competent expert after a bicycle accident—one who can accurately evaluate e-bike systems, carbon damage, and current market values—will quickly realize that the supply gap is real. The Zedler-Institut is addressing this gap—one training session at a time. This is not a minor niche issue, but a tangible problem for anyone waiting for fair claims settlement after an accident.
