Energy Efficiency Despite Energy-Intensive Test Laboratories
The heart of the Ludwigsburg site consists of five test laboratories. On behalf of more than 100 bicycle and component manufacturers from five continents, these facilities thoroughly test the durability under operating conditions and safety of bicycles, pedelecs and cargo bikes. Although these testing processes are inherently energy-intensive, rigorous energy, air and water management helps maintain the site's environmental performance. The building has undergone multiple operational audits by the German Sustainable Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V., DGNB) and has been awarded its highest rating, “Platinum”.
Managing Director Dirk Zedler explains the strategic significance of these measures:
“Sustainability means taking responsibility and ensuring our company remains resilient over the long term,” says Managing Director Dirk Zedler. “The past few months in particular have shown how important it is to use resources responsibly and take a forward-looking approach. Our operations are also certified as climate-neutral, making us largely independent of the volatility of oil and gas prices. This makes sound economic sense. Our investments in sustainable solutions are already strengthening our financial stability and helping secure our future.”
Setting an Example in Everyday Employee Mobility
In addition to its building technology, the company promotes environmentally friendly commuting practices:
- CO₂ savings: In 2025, employees saved approximately 5,725 kilograms of CO₂ by cycling to work.
- High rate of sustainable commuting: A total of 68% of employees commuted to work by bicycle, on foot or by public transport throughout the year.
- Next step: The company aims to obtain recertification under the new international DGNB criteria, in conjunction with the environmental management standard DIN EN ISO 14001.
