A passion for sport and a vocation for cycling are clearly a good combination. Zedler team member and factory rider Julian Großkopf put in an impressive performance at this year's Allgäu Triathlon. In a race featuring many prominent names, Julian made his decisive attack on the running section at Kuhsteig, securing himself a place on the podium in the legendary middle distance event.

In a time of 4:11:26, he mastered the notoriously demanding course, consisting of a 1.9 km swim in the Alpsee, a 90 km bike ride and

a final 21.1 km run.

Nils Lorenz, who has been working on his master's thesis at the Zedler-Institut since spring, also had a great finish to the season. After finishing third in the swim in the Rhine, he changed quickly and cycled the fifth-fastest time. Although he was unable to improve on his running time, considering the top-class field of middle-distance competitors in the heart of Cologne, his 5th place overall among more than 700 starters is a great achievement.

In recent years, employees have cycled over 70% of their commutes – all year round. This enthusiasm for cycling was also evident at this year's CITY CYCLING event (STADTRADELN) in Ludwigsburg: our colleagues took first place for the most kilometres cycled per capita in the ‘Companies’ category!

With passion, team spirit and lots of fun, we saved a total of

1,262 kg of CO2 in just these three weeks.

This shows once again that we don't just work on bicycles and their parts, talk about them and write about them: we cycle.

Bicycle mechanics successfully certified by the  Chamber of Crafts (HWK)

High-tech bicycles, e-bikes and transportation bikes require specialist knowledge. Instead of complaining about a shortage of skilled workers, we have been training people for years and volunteering in the examination system. This year's final examination for more than ten prospective bicycle mechanics took place in Waiblingen on 30 June 2025.

As a founding member of the IHK examination board, which has been based at the Stuttgart Region Chamber of Crafts for over a year, Dirk Zedler

has been volunteering to supervise the examinations of trainees in this field since 2007.

In addition to the time spent examining, the Zedler-Institut regularly supports the examinations by providing free materials. For this year's examinations, these materials included frame components so that the prospective journeymen could demonstrate their skills in the proper and professional machining of bottom bracket housings.

DAkkS accreditation significantly expanded

After the audit is before the re-audit, but that wasn't enough for us: A good three years after the accreditation audit in summer 2022 according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-03 for bicycles, pedelecs/e-bikes and transport bikes as a testing laboratory, our QA team led by Philipp Kipker received the certificate a few days ago with the extension of the scope as an internal calibration laboratory.

For our customers, re-accreditation by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) means that all testing processes and all self-developed testing systems

are audited externally and by the highest authority, i.e. put to the test.
Ergo: The test reports are recognised globally.

Thanks to the demanding qualification as a calibration laboratory, we are able to test the majority of our more than 300 internal measuring instruments for precision using our own traceable calibration measuring tools and test stands.
Ergo: Test equipment does not have to be sent away for external calibration for weeks on end, but is always available with the highest precision.

This also ensures that we are usually up to date with our tests. We always keep our 48-hour promise to start testing verifiable, i.e. completely delivered, test specimens.
Ergo: DAkkS-accredited tests in the shortest possible time and in climate-neutral operation.

Oh yes, ‘climate-neutral’ has also been externally audited and certified by the DGNB for several years, but we will discuss this audit another time.
