All about bicycles, electric-assisted bikes, technology and safety in the press

The most common safety risks that we come across in our daily work around bicycle safety, technology and operating instructions are also published by us in articles in the leading German special-interest magazines TOUR (Europe's road bike magazine no. 1), BIKE (Europe's mountain bike magazine no. 1), MYBIKE and EMTB in order to make this information, which is important for the industry, available to a wider public.

For many years now, the Eurobike Show Daily, trade fair magazine of the annual Eurobike Show, has also given us the opportunity to publish our view of major developments in the cycle industry in full-page articles.

We also speak regularly in independent expert presentations about all areas of bicycle technology and the bicycle market. In addition, we are quoted by further special-interest magazines of the industry and the trade as well as increasingly by radio and television in their media reports, which shows us that we are spot on with our advice. The section "News" informs you about the latest news from our specialist areas. The reports and publications of this section are listed chronologically or according to areas of interest.

Shimano have retested latest brake technology

ICE technology is top class - Due to a total brake failure in the German mountain bike magazine BIKE, Shimano have requested the well-known testing institute "velotech.de" to carry out additional tests. Has the Japanese global player the intention of bedding in a magazine?

COMPANY: ZEDLER - INSTITUT FUR FAHRRADTECHNIK UND -SICHERHEIT GMBH

THE BRAKE TEST IN THE BIKE MAGAZINE REVEALED A TOTAL FAILURE OF THE XTR ICE TECH-BRAKE. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS RESULT?

Dirk Zedler, graduate engineer:

I myself was not present when the tests of BIKE and Velotech.de were carried out, but I’ve inspected the test reports of both tests. What is more, I know the BIKE test stand very well and was involved in the analysis of the laboratory measurement report. The fact that BIKE ascertained the failures on the test stand as well as in practice, supports their findings. The tests at Velotech were carried out about 5 months after the tests at BIKE. That means that the products are not necessarily comparable. Further target-oriented discussions are only reasonable, if the materials of the brakes under test of both test stand examinations will have been inspected. If it turns out that the aluminium cores of all „sandwich rotors“ are identic in quantity, and only then, the discussions about the test procedure can be continued. I’m of course open for further discussions on reasonable test standards.
